Frum Band Names

[Image missing from the archive]If I could play an instrument other then the flab on my stomach, I would play something of the string variety, probably a fiddle, mandolin or the guitar and of course I would have a band and of course it would be frum, not only would my band be frum, but it would be frummy. I would probably want my band to be of the metal, country or bluegrass variety. If I had a metal band I would call it Sinas Chinam, not only does it sound evil, it is evil and we could write it in blood – we could even have an album cover that has everyone drowning in the mabul or dying during Rabbi Akiva’s time or something. Of course that got me thinking about frum band names.

My friend came up with Norman Lamm of God, but after that and Sinas Chinam I’m kind of stumped, but I was curious to see what frum band names you could come up with…

  8. Like Yochanan pointed out, too many of these are just parodies. Just like too many of the “jewish music” videos that seem to make the rounds with every under 50 non black hat I know are “parodies” (and I use that word most generously here). Sorry to be the one to say it but honestly, while some Jews have written some of the best popular music in the 20th century, on the whole observant Jews just dont seem to be all that creative musically.

Maybe I shouldnt kvetch since I dont have a better list myself. I’ve released music under about a hundred names by now but never consciously tried to make a frummy release because it just seems like an oxymoron.

If I’ve missed the point entirely, just keep ignoring me.

  9. Big Moishie and the kids table
    Yingleit Manifesto
    Sefira Arctica
    5 Finger Shteig n Lunch
    Reel Big Gefilte Fish
    Tefilinium
    Amen Amarth

      1. I am in a Ska/Punk band and I usually go backstage with the ska bands because I am friends with Nadav from Streetlight Manifesto

  10. I’ve always wanted to call my band The Mitzva Knights. We just go by Kol Tzfardeaya. Yes we are really a band.

Lead guitar, I play bass (In a yeshivish band, I know! right?) Drums, keys, and a shtickleh brass when we don’t want to kill him.

Blues based klezmer and Metalized Yeshivish pop.

  11. As a member of real-life bands White Shabbos (bluegrass/irish/punk) and Moshiach Oi! (hardcore punk), I encourage you all to pick up guitars make your fantasies reality. We need more bands we can play shows with.
