Chossid shows his dance moves at a club

Thanks to Yehuda for sending me this hilarious video of a chossid showing off his moves at a club, really brought a smile to my face because he looks like he’s having such a good time and since he’s shoimer negiah he’s not really doing anything wrong, can’t say the same about his friend in the back round.

Update: Despite my strong yetzer harah, the person having such a grand time in the video has asked me about 10 times to remove it and I decided to, though I made it clear that the video is posted all over you tube and it will never go away – merely searching chossid dancing at a club will get you to it…

  1. I agree. It brings a smile to one’s face to see him having such a good time. What you be saying if this were a picture of a fumishe girl doing the same?

  2. With respect, I’m not convinced. A frumishe girl caught on video at a club getting down with a black man while wearing clearly identifiable chassidishe clothes? She would be a hypocritical ho, a sheitle hooker, a skank, a slut. She would be pilloried for every conceivable deviation from the norm, especially if she did something equivalent to “hiding her tzitzit” like this guy did.

        1. The hot chanie photo was not taken or illustrated by me, however, I don;t think they are necessarally wrong, they can really do whatever they want. As a guy of course, I like the ladies, so they may get a bit more commentary than I would give to the dudes.

          1. If you’re hoping to get married in California as opposed to New York I’d certainly hope so 🙂

          2. Hopefully, Prop 8 will be defeated soon, anyway, so the sanctity of marriage is destroyed on both coasts! I can’t wait. 🙂

  3. > can;t say the same about his friend in the back round.

I love the way you misspelled this so well — the “back round”. Indeed, an accurate description of the 1:04 dance move.

  4. I’m surprised that he didn’t make any attempt to go in disguise. A lot of frum people hang out at places they wouldn’t want to be caught, but I would have thought that normally they wear a colored shirt and a baseball cap hiding thgeir payot.

BTW – Your comment that “he’s not really doing anything wrong” is incorrect – I’m not judging, as we all do things that are not appropriate, but he is violating many halachot, even if he is not touching his dance partner.

      1. Mixed dancing (even without touching) is discussed in a lot of halachic sources, if you want sources start with Shulchan Aruch, Even haezer 21:1 and follow the commentries.

Are you aware of any halachic authorities that permit dancing if it does not involve touching – if so, please share…..

    1. And it’s nice to see an American dancing for the fun of it, not just to get into a girl’s pants. That is one of the underrated things about Orthodox Judaism.

  5. I agree with the above posters. Why is it that a woman who dances but remains shomer negiah and dressed in “frum” clothing is considered untznius whereas this man is considered fun and cool? I, at least, consider him fun and cool. Why can’t women be attracted to dancing men?

    1. I have never seen a video of a tznius girl dancing with dudes so therefore have never actually commented on it and therefore the above posters are making false presumptions,. The hot chanie thing is a big frum satire blog joke, where I make fun of a woman who values covering her hair from a social aspect yet the meaning seem fully lost.

      1. Heshy,
I’m not attacking you. I understand why you’re on the defensive, but there’s no need to be. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are no tznius dancing girl videos because a frum female cannot cross between the frum and secular worlds with the ease a man can. Admittedly, it’s not easy for us men either, but I think it’s easier than for women.

        1. Actually, these chassidim dancing in videos are almost always filmed by non-Jews and found randomly by people who send them to me. The problem is that non-frummies wouldn’t look at a frum girl and say he there’s a girl with a sheitle on grinding some big guy at a biker bar – basically girls blend in way better.

          1. oh come on! as much as i love ur blog Hesh, you gotta admit there’s a double standard. (aside from the fact that a frum girl can just put on a mini-skirt or whatevs and most non-frum won’t be able to tell so no1 would bother filming it cuz its not funny, trust me, i had plenty of experience in my frum days.)

      2. can you explain? are you saying that a woman that covers her hair should dress like an ugly duckling? and any woman that covers her should wear a wig that looks gross? and clothing that are too big on her?

the meaning of covering hair seems to be to cover “erva” which hair is considered post-marriage! nothing more nothing less

        1. It’s not so cut an dry. If you look at what the rabbis look at instead of just listening to them tell you, “you have to do this and you have to do that” you see a different picture.

        2. Covering hair is a matter of halachic dispute today. There are strong sources that permit leaving the hair uncovered today and there are strong sources that forbid it. It’s a win-win situation in my book.

        3. You are an idiot if you think there is no connection between hair covering and the general idea to be tzanua. Please.

    2. My BY education taught me that it’s because men are pigs. A woman doing anything that draws attention to herself will cause a man to sin, while women are able to control themselves.

      1. Don’t even get me started on that stuff – I absolutely hate that reasoning as to why women should stay in the home and suffer because men are not at fault for being pigs. It’s almost forcing men to think they have to responsibility towards women because they are told it’s their nature.

        1. Saltpeter, blinders, anatomical locks from one of those stores for the Customer Who Knows What He Wants.

That should take care of men being unable to control themselves.

          Next problem?

  6. A litvish guy with the hat and suit would look a bit cooler IMHO. It’s nice to swing by the Jazz Bars ’round here with the ‘ol hat and play some Jewish Blues. Yeah, Jewish Blues. Blues in a minor chord with a slow 2/2 timing.

  8. For all you feminists out there complaining that if it were a girl people would call her untznius or a slut or whatever, the fact is, a full on chassidishe guy, grinding on the dancefloor, grabs people attention as something so totally out of the ordinary, far more so than a girl wearing a wig and a long skirt. It blows us away by being sooooo bizarre, that it creates cognitive dissonance, his frum, but he’s got moves???? and to reconcile this, we just say, wow, that guy must just be ridiculously cool. And so we love him for it.

        1. Most of the clubs around here are mostly Black. When we’ve gone out we’ve never had a problem. Not being a drunken putz helps a lot. So does taking the chip off your shoulder and not treating everyone like he is about to kill you.

          1. “Not being a drunken putz helps” Glad you finally learnt that lol. How many beatings did it take to get u from teenage kid to pre mature adult?

          2. I’ve never actually been drunk. Most of the fights I got into as a kid and teen had to do with being Jewish in a redneck town. I got my share of lumps. But I was willing to get hurt more and to hurt them more, so I never really lost. And word got around.

    1. So far you’re terrified of The Big Black Bogeyman and really quick to accuse everyone who disagrees with you of being Infected by Teh Ghey.

What a strange place the inside of your head must be.

  9. Hey Hesh,
its been foreversss!!! But just wanted to say hi and tell you that this video made my day…Put a smile on my face after a rough morning. Good for him for having fun 🙂
And PS @ Mike for anyone who really likes to dance and knows how to really break it down Ghetto clubs are THE BEST.

  10. I would love to see one of the kiruv rabbis come into this club and try to convince him that he should go to aish hatorah for a year to find himself.

  11. I should be able to pole dance at clubs too just as long as men can find a way to insert cash in my g-string without touching me 😉
That chossid just blew his shidduch prospects. If he is married, he better pray that his wife and father in law don’t come across that video. Being caught surrounded by scantly clad women doesn’t bode well for a man in the frum world.

  12. I never really understood the appeal of discotheques. Whenever I’ve gone to them it just feels really claustrophobic, and that’s not even taking into consideration the whole mixed dancing issue.

    1. A lot of clubs are crowded. Some are too crowded, especially in places like NYC where real estate is sold by the square inch.

Getting together in large groups to dance and socialize and relax is one of the fundamental, universal human pleasures.

    2. It’s fun to dance but yeah, you go out with the girls and they get jealous of you. The guys want nothing but p*ssy…. Girls actualy think they’ll find a relationship there. I guess it’s like a singles Shabbaton….

    3. Mixed dancing IS most of the issue. Its really fun and most people enjoy it. And the drinking doesnt hurt….

  13. I love the way someone called these women “scantily clad” , they are not tzinus , but they are wearing tank tops , not belly shirts and/or bikinis.

  14. As a BT, I am continually embarrassed by FFB or supposedly frum people behaving in such a manner. Seriously, have some self respect.

And for all the defending of how “women” would be treated if this happened to them, lets be honest, “frum” women are doing the same and MUCH worse, and in far greater numbers than the men are. And yes there is a doubled standard because for women its EASY for them. They can easily live double lives without people knowing about.

Serious, FFBs, especially the women, sux at being Jewish.

      1. Many bad days 🙂 Honestly, I’m heart broken to see so many Jews grow up around Torah and see it have so little affect on them. Especially with it having the affect it has had on me.

Who knows, maybe this guy just got divorced or found out his wife cheated on him and he is letting off steam. Who are we to judge.

        1. I fully agree with your last paragraph….

In regards to the first though, maybe I am odd or something, but I do not feel like every person (Jew or non-Jew) has it in them to be a pious tzaddik. Should we always strive for improvement and growing closer to Hashem? Of course. But the level of a Jew’s observance and/or connection with Hashem is ultimately on them. Just because someone is not holding at a certain level does not mean they don’t have a connection to Torah or Hashem.

A great example of this are Jews who lived through the Shoah…were frum before it started, and after it ended, gave up being frum because they felt Hashem turned his back on them. I personally would never admonish such people. They lived through a test that none of us can really even fathom. But there are plenty of Jews who went through the Shoah frum…and remained frum. This doesn’t detract from the validity of the other people’s feelings. All this means is that every individual has their breaking point; and what comes easily and naturally to others, is not usually the case across the board.

IMHO, it is very misguided to hold other people to your own personal standards. Let well enough alone…and things will end up better for all of us.

  16. If this guy was a “frum” litvak (ie did not have peyos & a shaved head), tucked in his tzitzis & wore a blue t-shirt, worn a baseball cap (or taken off his yamulka), no one there would have taken a second look at him, and no one (unless they were also a frum Jew) would have been able to tell he was even Jewish. The fact that he is so recognizably Jewish & makes no effort to hide it, makes it such a oxymoron, even though there is really no difference.

The fact that this guy who is (/trying to be?) Shomer negia, gets videoed, as opposed to all the others (there seem to be more than 2 from the end of the video) who are not, just makes it even more ironic!

  17. We also have the option of assuming that since the video was posted on a site about dancing, maybe they just like his dance moves. Maybe they are not obsessed with categorizing people in the way that we all seem to be.

  18. People here are forgetting that it is entirely possible that these guys were just dressing up as a chasidim, which people apparently do these days (even Al Pacino: http://shawnchittle.com/2010/film/al-pacino-secretly-dresses-up-as-a-hasdic-ultra-orthodox-jew-in-boro-park/) . Don’t be so quick to make judgements about entire groups based on random videos of strange happenings which may or may not be what they seem to be.

Seriously – does something like this shock people more than “hasidim” protesting for the abolishment of Eretz Yisrael or meeting with Arafat and Ahmedinijad? Why do do people find this funny? Would people find it funny if a “hasid” spoke loshon hara? Has this site become a outlet for people to justify their own shortcomings by making exhibitions of others who have done the same?

  19. Listen… this is a Williamsburg chossid that goes out all the time. It isn’t just like one day he went out and dance at urban club. that is the scene. people from the area know it. i feel bad for his wife.
