I love when rappers sample frummy music

Not sure which frummy band is being sampled, but it’s awesome when rappers and DJ do this sort of thing.

    1. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. This link is probably the greatest thing ever posted on this blog.

    2. When I first heard about MBD’s “Yidden” and Ralph Siegel’s “Dschinghis Khan” being the same tune, I thought “yeah, that shnook swiped a non-Jewish song that no one had heard of and figured no one would notice.”. But “Dschinghis Khan” was not some obscure song. It was Germany’s 1979 entry in the Eurovision contest, a program that Israel also participates in and Israelis no doubt watched. So this tune as “Dschinghis Khan” was known in Israel. Assuming Siegel wrote it, of course, he may deserve compensation from people who publish works derived from it. But in the Jewish community (and others), there’s a long history of one tune being “adapted” to new words. Sometimes these tunes are frum in their origin, other times they are from secular sources. The key is that a significant percent of people know that these are borrowed songs. I don’t know if MBD claims to have written either the words or tune to Yidden and it’s certainly possible that someone else wrote them and MBD recorded it (many songs are made famous by people other than their composers). So, for Americans who may not follow Eurovision, “Dschinghis Khan” with new Yiddish words is something to snicker about. For people who know about Eurovision, it’s just an tune that got adopted.

  1. dude you posted this such a long time ago already. this song is dope as hell though. the sample is from the new york boys choir

  2. As a hip-hop fan, I think this beat is seriously awesome. Too bad none of the other work these people did comes close in terms of production quality. I was expecting other work in the Hi-Tek/J.Dilla/RZA quality range and it was just average.

    1. Can’t tell if troll…

      …or just crazy chareidi.

(Though I’m guessing troll ’cause if you were that chareidi, you wouldn’t use the internet.)

  3. “Eshet Hayyil” by Chaya (sister of Shmuel) Borger. As performed by Hershel Lebowitz’ “New York School of Jewish Song” (Aderet, circa 1975). Lebowitz recorded a lot of songs by Yossi Green.

    Who are these rappers?

  4. As IsaacB said, this is from the NY School of Jewish Song’s second album, released in 1976 (I am pretty sure, as I was on it…)
amazing that these guys actually found it..

  5. I’ve heard some opera-rap and I’ve even seen heavy metal ballet, but this far-out combination of heilige kindeles and gutter rap really takes the cake.
