World Record Fastest Matzah Eating

Jeremy Moses of MyJewishLearning just took it upon himself to break the world record for matzah eating. (Disclaimer: before he tried, there was no world record for matzah eating.)

Every year at seder, we’re supposed to eat the entire 2/3 of a piece of matzah (okay, that’s if you’re eating shmura matzah — 1 entire sheet, if you go by the machine-made *ahem* cheating *ahem* kind) in one action, without swallowing. Add that to the fact that you’re not supposed to have eaten matzah at all in the past 30 days…Well, if you can get it down in one gulp, you’re kind of a hero.

(Jeremy also wants me to add that, when he was practicing, he did it much faster than he did on the video. So there.)

Can anyone break it?

  1. “Tradition” surely comes up with a lot of fascinating bullcrap.

    1) On all other nights we eat leavened bread or matzoh. Why on this night only matzoh?

    2) Eat the entire 2/3 of a sheet without stopping or swallowing. Did the Children of Israel do that? No. Can I cram that much matzoh into my adult-sized pie-hole all at once.? No.

  2. The whole question is if you want to get totally Talmudic is that yhe K’zayit needs to be eaten “kdei Achilat Pat” Which every “gadol” gives a calculated to the milisecond time. So therefore if you want to be super duper machmir, like we all shouild if one does not eat the whole k’zayit, which of course should be a whole piece of hand shmurah so he/she can be yotzei l’kol hadayot, in the shortestest amount of time, appx 2:30 min, he must start all over again and eat another shiur of matzah. This might require several self induced vomitting sessions to clear the palette, but again, when serving God, we must dedicate our heart, soul and of course our body to Him
