Let me put it to you this way- when my dad attended Ner Yisreol in Baltimore- they took their English classes in Public school- the year that they desegregated Balti public schools in fact. My dad is constantly talking about how it was different in the old days- he grew up in Boro Park but him and his brothers used to go to mixed dancing events all the time- even while learning in Rav Ahrons Shuir at Lakewood- much different indeed.
My old man definitely had his frivolous days of hanging out in village bars listening to Janis and the Doors- attending Woodstock etc… but its very hard to classify him.
