I wonder if these types of campaigns actually help the shidduch situation, or just make single girls feel old at the ripe young age of 23 and make them feel like pieces of meat on consignment. I also found the site to have some of the most interesting fine print I’ve ever seen – allowing me to think that they really don’t want you to get this money.

The fine print below:
-
The request for payment must be submitted within 30 days of the engagement.
-
The single woman must be at least 23-years old at the time the engagement is announced. There is no upper age limit.
-
Widows and divorcees are included.
-
The couple must be committed to observing the laws of kashrus, Shabbos, and taharas hamishpacha.
-
Parents, grandparents, children, siblings, sibling-in-laws, and aunts and uncles of the couple are not eligible for the gift. Cousins and other relatives who arrange a shidduch are eligible.
-
Central Queens is defined as the areas of Forest Hills, Hillcrest, Jamaica Estates, Kew Gardens, Kew Gardens Hills, Rego Park, Briarwood, Holliswood, and Flushing .
-
A Central Queens woman is defined as:
Her parents must live in Central Queens for one year and have purchased a house there, or are renting a dwelling there for two years, OR-
If she lives in Central Queens alone, without family, she must have lived in Central Queens for two years (student years do not count). -
A Central Queens woman, living elsewhere for less than two years, whose parents are presently living in Central Queens, is eligible.
-
If more than one person was involved in the introduction of the couple, the $2,000 award will be divided amongst the parties according to traditional guidelines. For example, if one person thought of the idea and asked a professional to arrange it, the one who thought of it gets 1/3 of the shadchanus and the professional gets 2/3 of the shadchanus.
-
If the shidduch breaks up, chas v’shalom, before the wedding, the committee is exempt from paying the gift.
-
Payment of the gift will be made by the committee within approximately six months after the chasana.
-
The initial introduction of the couple (i.e., the first meeting of the couple) must not have been made prior to the starting date of this program, Rosh Chodesh Nissan, 5765 (April 10, 2005).All disputes, e.g., who is the shadchan, questions regarding eligibility, etc., will be settled by the committee’s rabbinic advisor, Rabbi H. Welcher, shlita, or his designee, whose decision will be final.

I was a divorcee. Queens Shidduch Initiative paid $2,000 the the shadchan on sawyouatsinai, who made the shidduch (but no involvement beyond pairing us up).
I got divorced, but moved out of town. I have been living out of town for two years, so I ruined it for myself this time around.
If a person lives in Queens and gets divorced and remarried 5 times, is there a limit as to how many times you can ask this organization to pay your shadchan fee?
Your on to something. And I like it. Are you prepared to pull off the ultimate Jew scam?
I’m serious, this could be a great way to burn time and get rich. Tax free. Holy Shit.
Only thing is that a wedding costs way more than $2000.
A second wedding only costs $2,000: $200 for shul rental, and rest for food.
You can def do a wedding for cheap, it’s keeping up with the neighbors that costs so much money.
Ugh! Am I the only girl here who finds this really offensive?!?
No. However, it’s more ridiculous than offensive.
Nope. I’d rather be single (and likely will be) than have a husband purchase me.
Brianna,
There was a made for TV movie in 1988 called “Onassis: The Richest Man in the World” which contained the most memorable lesson: The son turns 18 and his wealthy father takes him to Paris to celebrate his birthday. He takes him to the finest brothel in the city and tells him to choose any girl he wants.
The son protests “but father, I’m don’t want to do it this way, where you have to pay for it.”
The father responds “Son, when it comes to women, you always pay for it. But with these women, you pay upfront.”
Neither the only girl nor the only boy.
If the shadchan was working via SYAS, isn’t she already getting paid?
“The couple must be committed to observing the laws of kashrus, Shabbos, and taharas hamishpacha.” What about honesty in business and g’milut hassadim and hachnasat orchim and kibbud av v’em and countless other mitzvot pointedly excluded by the single minded focus on ritual matters?
eh, who is single minded here?
seems to me like you are.
When it changes I’ll stop calling attention to it.
I went to their shidduch event last night in KGH. The males far outnumbered the females. Most males and females were far above age 30. Two women were 26, and the older men swarmed around them like sharks! Some women left early.
I am below 30, and being at the younger end, I felt so out of place. These events need better coordination. Restrict the age group, make the ratio equal for starters.
That’s pretty much who these events are geared for I think. People who are younger generally are still in school and have plenty of ways of meeting up with singles without it being a big meat fest, or even shadchanim if they’re frummer. Singles events where they are large meet ups are a bad idea in general because that kind of thing will happen. It’s not exactly a conducive environment for meeting people since you’re competing with so many different people at once (and guys just want to start up with the hot ones and try to block everyone else from having the opportunity).
Of all my friends, I know only one married couple that met up at one of these type of events a few years ago, and honestly I think the only reason she was there was she is so tall she had trouble finding anyone her own size.
I have a solution “older” single Jewish women.
Marry Gentiles.
Your children will still be Jewish, so you’ll be responsible for bringing Jewish souls into the world. Anyone who teaches them Judaism gains metric buttloads of merit. And you help ensure the survival of Judaism by adding a little variety to our dangerously shallow gene pool.
Maybe I’m naive, but wouldn’t the average nonjew be upset if his kids were brought up Orthodox Jewish, effectively cutting him out of raising them?
Depends on the Gentile and the degree of observance.
Orthodox Jewish schools are anti-intermarriage. What sane person would send their child to a place teaching them that daddy and mommy are bad- for thousands of dollars? Then, there’s keeping kosher, which is also $. From a logical perspective, this looks like a bad investment. Why go through that when you can find a good woman that wouldn’t require you to change so drastically?
When he made love to her, the LORD enabled her to conceive, and she gave birth to a son. (Ruth)
I don’t think so
He’ll still raise them. And the degree of observance is negotiable as is everything in parenting. The point is, these women probably won’t get married or have any Jewish children. If they marry Gentiles their children will be Jewish and can always because second class citizens (BTs) at a later time.

A. Nuran. You’re a nigger. I will only marry Chasidim. specifically chabadniks.
Chicken Nugget, go back to troll school. So far you’re about 2/10.
I’m not a troll. I speak the truth. Maybe you should do so yourself.
OK. You’ll only marry Chabadniks.
Good for you. Shema Yisroel Menachem Eloheynu. Schneerson Ehod.
The rest of the world doesn’t have to worry about sleeping with The Crazy because you
How did you guess I was a nigger? Am I one of those nigras who wants to boink Jews or just any White woman who comes along?
Gut, gut, finally you have come to your senses. Nigger.
No, not for that reason. Well, partially. The main thing was that you just a resemble a nigger. Well, a nigger’s political beliefs. Simple as that.
Chabadniks are the best. <3 <3 <3 Chabad is the best. <3 <3 <3
I think your spell checker is off. the word is spelled “nagaar” and it means “carpenter” in Hebrew. The only famous Jewish nagaar was Jesus. And I think this gets us back to Nuran’s “marry gentiles” comment.
Just remember what they used to say: “chabbadnicks are for practice”, oh wait, was that shiksahs? now I’m confused.
So why is it that “carpenters” like fried chicken so much?
Do you suffer from Tourette’s? You seem to be spouting insanity, liberally sprinkled with the “N” word, for no reason. You should consider medical assistance at this time. Possibly consider dialing 911.
You may also have suddenly turned into a 12 year old girl, based on your use of “<3 <3 <3." This condition should be treated immediately. Good luck.
I’m a nigger shiksa.
clever troll Mr. Chicken — commenting using my handle in a manner that is unlike any of my other writing on this site. You must be loved by many people.
or bored
Yep, so easy to do, a negro can do it too!

Shameful Trolling Mr Chicken (pretending to be me)
Chillul ha-Satire
Actually Ms. Chicken. And yes, I am loved by many.
They were submissive to their own husbands, who called him her master.
Ruthless witnesses come forward; they question me on things I know nothing about. They repay me evil for good and leave me like one bereaved. Yet.
