Never in all my years would I expect my father to say the following statement about a Republican “McCain is dead” is all he could say to me about the debate which he was listening to in his car because I don’t have a TV. This is a breakthrough because my dad, like most republicans, never admit it when they are wrong politically- but I guess he didn’t get to watch Fox news or listen to Rush yet in order to change his mind.
I could have told you McCain was going to loose based on these two videos. The Great Schlep is a campaign to get elderly Jews in Florida to vote for Obama and Sarah Silverman does a phenomenal job. Then Jackie Mason made a counter video and it sucks. These two videos have basically sealed the fate of the presidential election in my mind. Please note that the first video contains some expletives- but Sarah Silverman is great:
Jackie Masons Horrible Rebuttal

I like how he attacks Silverman for not giving any specifics on why Obama is good and then goes ahead and only says about McCain that he has done “a lot” for this country.
And being a POW is not a sufficient reasoning as to why he should become President.
I’m a big Jackie Mason fan. I never heard of Sarah Silverman. McCain should have picked Jackie Mason for VP.
So … I like how his video is paid for by the Republican Jewish Coalition something or other. And how he calls her a “Sick Yenta.”
Oh wait, I don’t like those things AT ALL!
In this nights debate I say mcCain kicked Obama in all areas.
Sarah Silverman was obnoxious and condescending. She thinks that old people are stupid and vote for people based on the sound of their name. Whereas she is so wise and well, right. Just trust her, she’s young and cute and has a Jewish name.
I didn’t bother to watch Jackie.
And the disclaimer–my opinion has nothing to do with my views on the candidates themselves.
To me its kind of like the Mac vs. PC commercial- which is a great marketing tool.
You people know this post was just a joke right?
Oy. Here’s the thing. I think SS is funny, but I don’t agree with her on many things. That’s ok. She’s a …….COMEDIENNE!!!!!!
Man, satire is ok, but it irks me that Hollywood liberals think they need to save the world with their “craft.” Same for Hasselbeck and Mason on the other side, but there are less of them. In the end, I’m a grown-up with grown-up problems and a cynical and guarded take on humanity so I will vote Republican and you can have your idealistic victory over me. You guys can officially save the world for us. Let me know how it turns out because I’m gonna be too busy working and extra job to pay the bills (no joke) and worrying about a nuclear war.
On a Monsey note, I find myself more and more coming across these hippyish, Baalei Teshuva, liberal, organic-food/vegetarian eating frum Jews around here. I find that they are an interesting subset of frum Jews and worthy of a satire onto themselves. Usually, they were raised wealthy in CA or CT and have attended Ivy League schools paid for by their parents. Many times, they are older Carlebach followers (I mean original Carlebachians) with trust funds and stuff that they live on. They usually don’t seem to have financial pressures and live quite well. It costs a lot to support the local health food store. Look, it’s Erev Yom Kippur, but I want to see someone make fun of them because, in my life, I can only nod and smile at them and their concerns about global warming while I sit behind a mountain of bills.
I’m at work, so I can’t watch the videos but I think Obama made a much better showing.
*dances*
Does anyone listen to NPR? They were “fact-checking” this morning, and were picking up on a lot of exaggerations that both candidates made…not that thats a shocker, but its nice that someones finding this stuff. They’ve put the transcript of the debate up on their website and are posting the results all the debate “fact checking” too. Worth a look.
Yeah, Silverman is great.
Go Obama!
factcheck.org is a good site
as is votegopher which does two minute video comparisons between the two on each issue
I am a afroamerica. I want to be jew. I want to dress funny and own a business. I want to sell junk to people and charge too much for it. I want to make fun of people in funny langwage with funny words. Where to convurt to me? My preist don’t want me convurt but he say its all about a baptism in a Mitzva tank of water and then you drink 4 cups of wine and light alot of candles. A-Men to that. I already do that on my birfday.
Nevre heard of Sarah until now, she is way too annoying, I had to turn the clip off after 1 minute. Jacky isn’t much better, I wasn’t a big fan of his, but this is worse than most of his stuff that I’ve heard. He would have made a good Rabbi.
I watched the debate with the sound off (I couldn’t care about what they have to say) , you tend to notice a lot of things that you wouldn’t normally notice. Here are a few:
-McCain has a terrible habit of blinking every 2-
3 seconds without fail.
-McCain is either missing his top teeth or his upper lip is glued to them. All you see when he talks is the bottom row of teeth.
-Obama has a huge head in relation to his upper body, maybe it’s the ears sticking out as far as his shoulders. He loos almost like those old TV show aliens.
-Obama kept a permanent stupid looking smirk on his face any time McCain was talking.
-The crowd sitting behing McCain was all white, Obama had 3 or 4 “colored” people as well as some hispanic looking ones on his side.
I’ll really miss Dubya without sound once he’s gone, he has the best facial expressions of any president in recent history, he was also pretty funnyt with the sound on. Bill Clinton is the runner up with that stupid “thumbs up” thing.
Man, people actually listen to Sarah Silverman?
She’s not even funny, all her jokes have that gross-humor thing that is simply cheap.
utubefan, do they hang out at 7-eleven? Or maybe the Trader Joe’s on 17?
Sarah rocks- ever see her Jesus song bit? Hilarious!
But its all opinion, she has sly sick humor- sick humor when your least expecting it- kind of like the band during Old School when they are singing the song turn around- and they enter curse words in at random.
the thing is, jackie mason is too old to understand the way internet humor works. sarah silverman made a well crafted, well thought out, funny sketch (and my grandmother really is one of those silly old ladies who probably won’t even vote because her mobility is not so ay-yay-yay), while jackie mason just came off as a silly old man….like one of those crazy guys in shul who hate when kids have fun in the hall. i mean come ON! what kid under the age of like 11 goes to shul for anything besides hiding behind the coats dunking their candyman lollipops into cups of drinking fountain water?? puhLEASE.
Jelen:
Yeah, I hated those nasty geezers in shul too!
I Don’t think many of the “geezers” are surfing on Youtube, both of these comedians are probably getting their views from young people like readers of this blog. They would be better off performing their shtick at a bingo hall.
Geezer, er Phil:
F- off
Sarah Silverman disappoints me as a comic most of the time. But there are few things more annoying than a shallow JAP threatening American Jews with a pogrom if they don’t vote the way she tells them to. By the way, the Alte Kocker Floridians are more likely to get out and vote Democratic than Silverman and her ilk.
Be afraid, be very afraid. Cuz us right-wing Jews got all the guns.
Tehy just played the Sarah clip on CNN on Friday, more left wing promo on their part.
Sarah Silverman-
the pottymouthed hottie. How about a clean comedian for once? If Silverman shleps for Obama, will Ron Jeremy shtup for Obama?
A BT chareidi woman gave me the dumbest reason to vote for McCain. She “heard” Obama’s a Muslim. When I said he’s Christian, she said she could tell by the name that I’m wrong. They don’t have a TV any longer (yet she somehow finds a way to watch The Tudors), possibly have Internet (at least a while ago they did), and don’t read the newspaper. (I mentioned the Muslim thing was refuted months ago.) It’s like describing certain hechsherim: they’re just “unreliable” but no one knows why.
wow hesh, ur right, sarah silverman’s video is great, especially the way she figured out that old people and anyone in general who doesn’t want to vote for obama must be doing it because they dont like the foreignness of obama’s name……..it couldn’t possibly be that some old people actually care about issues and substance…..that’s right, this election, even though we must choose between whether to elect a douche or a turd, some of us will look beyond superficialities such as race (I know people who will vote for Obama simply because they love the fact that he’s black,) or background (I also know people who will vote for McCain simply because he’s a war hero), and will actually vote based on candidates’ stands on the issues.
So, Miss Silverman, as much as you and all your elitist friends would like to disparage me for doing so, I will vote for McCain on Nov. 4th. Not because Obama’s middle name is Hussein, nor because his first name is Barack, nor even because I am a fan of McCain. I am voting against Obama because:
1) I am a gunowner. I believe that if guns are outlawed, only cops and criminals will have them. Obama has made a career out of extremist gun bans in Illinois.
2) I know firsthand the dangers of universal healthcare. My wife is from England, where they pay an enormous amount of taxes, in return for which they have the worst healthcare in Western Europe.
3) Obama would like to raise the corporate tax level. The USA already has the highest corporate tax rate in the entire world. As CEO of a corporation, I know that if corporate taxes were increased anymore, I will move my corporate headquarters out of the USA and into a more business-friendly country, and I doubt mine is the only corporation that would do so.
4) As we head into a major financial crisis, the last thing taxpayers need is more taxes. Yet Obama’s solution is to tax me even harder.
5) Obama’s extremist views on partial-birth abortions, (that’s where they kill the baby after it is born,) are unconscionable. Jill Stanek, an Illinois nurse, testified before Obama’s Illinois Senate Judiciary Committee – about how induced labor abortions were handled at her hospital, relating this story: “One night, a nursing co-worker was taking an aborted Down syndrome baby who was born alive to our Soiled Utility Room because his parents did not want to hold him, and she did not have the time to hold him. I couldn’t bear the thought of this suffering child lying alone in a Soiled Utility Room, so I cradled and rocked him for the 45 minutes that he lived.” Powerful stuff. Obama, however, was reportedly “unfazed” by her testimony.
6) No, the fact that Obama’s choice of a rabid anti-Semite to be his mentor does not mean that he must be an anti-Semite as well. But it certainly means, at the very least, that Obama has made some pretty poor judgments of character.
7) Sen. Obama is constantly touted by the extreme left as a “unifier.” But I see him as the most divisive, partisan man in politics today. He follows a left-wing agenda with absolutely no compromise on anything, and no attempts at bipartisanship. He does not represent “change”. He’s just yet another politician.
So, Hesh, when you say that “Sarah Silverman does a phenomenal job,” it comes across as insulting to us McCain supporters who do actually think intelligently about the issues. Because I don’t think SS did a phenomenal job. I think she did a horrible job at gaining any respect for the other position.
