With the popular radio show host Dr. Laura off the air, kollel wives around the country have joined together to produce the first Time Life Dr. Laura Box Set. It is well known that Dr. Laura was one of the most popular radio programs amongst women in the orthodox Jewish community trying to justify their kitchen and child rearing duties.
While many of the women are sad to see her go, they rejoiced at the call from Time Life to send in their old recordings of her doing her morning show that was considered to be the most moral voice on the radio. “She may have not been a practicing Jew, but we knew she was the true meaning of the pintele yid” – said Mushkie Levertov of Texas. It’s as if she was the voice of the orthodox community, calling homosexuality a disease and trying to make the N word sound acceptable (click the link for full transcript of the call)as the folks from Clerks 2 tried to make porch monkey sound acceptable.
In light of Dr. Laura’s demise many in the religious community at large are calling for the removal of the popular column Savage Love – calling it disgusting, lewd and a downright encouragement to sexual deviants – calling those who enjoy reading Savage Love a threat to society. We at FS News find it a bit odd that anyone right wing would actually be reading the free zines and papers that feature Savage Love – since his article is usually surrounded by ads for escort services and hot oil rub and tugs. We wonder if This Modern World is next on the right wing religious hit list.
You know what I didn’t like about Dr. Laura? She was just plain mean. Her voice was often filled with negativity and lack of compassion. That is why I now listen to Dennis Prager- he may be a pompous ass, but his message is the same as DL and he goes about it in a much kinder way.

If I have to listen to talk shows, I listen to Michael Savage. He puts everyone else to shame.
Dr. Laura’s a pr*ck. Dennis Prager’s a hypocrite- and how much balls do you need to have a male/female advice hour when you’ve been divorced three times?!

Have to add that Savage is another smug, self-satisfied thug who seems to enjoy tromping on the weak and defenseless, kids with autism, abuse victims, you name it. The way everyone whom he doesn’t like is a “Maoist” or “Trotskyite” isn’t offensive. It’s just embarrassingly stupid.
And when he excretes stuff like “The white Christian hetero***ual married male is the epitome of everything right with America”, well, he can suck the big kosher Jewish knockwurst. And its African, Latino, Asian, Muslim, Middle Eastern, Australian Aborigine, Buddhist, Hindu, Inuit, Native American, San, Sami, New Guinean, Indonesian and other equivalents. And apologize to the ladies for being an insufferable twerp. Except that would make him gay.
I think a lot of his problem stems from being short, Jewish and named “Mike Wiener”.
Phew. I have to say I get different vibes from him, but Mike Wiener has to be tough to grow up with.

I remember asking a yeshivish kiruv rabbi what he thought about Dr. Laura, several years ago when she was practicing Judaism. He shrugged his shoulders and said “she’s mean.” I didn’t quite see his point then, because I regarded her shoot from the hip manner of speaking as effectively cutting through BS and getting to the point.
I haven’t paid much attention to her in years, but I presumed that with her departure from Orthodox Judaism, many religious Jews lost interest in her show.
Her whole N word tirade struck me as pretty unnecessary, and since then her simultaneous apology/quitting her show because of being sick of being judged struck me as passive aggressive and obnoxious. I can’t imagine this broad is so pleasant to live with in spite of her books on marriage.

Dr Laura was one of the dumbest people on the radio. She makes the nuts on Art Bell/Coast to Coast AM look reasonable.

I always hated Dr. Laura. Who needs such a judgemental bitch giving out advice anyway? I don’t know if you guys know this but she started out as a radical feminist. And Batsheva, my favorite comic is Bloom County/Outland/Opus. The best political/pop culture comic strip ever. I miss Berke Breathed so.
How will the kollel wives explain her ideas while she tastes the various forms of Judaism and then left the fold completely?

Bye, Dr. Laura. Good riddance to bad rubbish. A woman in love with her own hype- to have someone tell you, “Dr. Laura is what Jewish women are all like” is sickening. I don’t appreciate being compared to a bigot and a racist simply because I’m Jewish. I don’t like my religion hijacked by her any more than Muslims like their religion hijacked by terrorists. Frankly I don’t find much difference between a Dr. Laura and an Osama bin Laden.
