I’m wondering when shuls will start having page counters that count how many pages are left in the davening rather than what page they are currently on? I know I spend half of shul counting and then recounting to make sure that we just did, indeed, skip 3 pages of “some shuls say these piyutim” that are one of the few joys of high holiday davening

That’s my debate with using Artscroll Schottenstien – on the one hand, the pages move quicker; on the other hand, there’s always a thousand pages to go.
I used to time pages-per-minute (or, less happily, minutes-per-page), then extrapolate the estimated time davening would end. I was just that kind of kid.
I like yom kippur better, because I hold up the two halves of the machzor–the pages we’ve said and the pages we have left–and compare how thick they are, and watch the left side grow bigger than the right side. Knowing, that we are saying it all until the end.
You must be going backwards
Get your machzor on the Kindle (not for Yom Kippur). It will tell you what percent you have completed 🙂
Artscroll was not written correctly.
The ones entitled “some congregations recite these” are almost nil, and the “most/all” are really “some”.
