In yeshiva, one of the ways they would try to deter us from talking to girls was to tell us how talking to them would make us lose our concentration. I’m not sure about you, but I’m pretty sure that thinking of girls that I talked to (there weren’t many until I hit 18) was a lot better than mishna brura seder at 8am in the morning. I tell you of this because today my concentration slipped for a moment and almost cost me dearly and it was all because of some girl I was thinking about.
I decided to ride my bike after work, despite getting no sleep on Saturday night and almost dying in a fiery plane crash yesterday on my way home to California. I’m up in Marin County racing against sunset on some super twisty singletrack when this girl of recent note pops into my head for a split second – it was a nanosecond I swear and there was no nudity or untzniusness involved. But it was enough to almost send me over the bars, off a cliff and into some trees, somehow God allowed me to correct myself and I let out a huge Holy Shit followed by a loud Baruch Hashem, mincha was also pretty heart filled at the top of the mountain.
I didn’t promise not to think of said girl, or any girls again, but it reminded me of my yeshiva days. I never really could find the maturity to agree with the rabbis, to agree that girls took your mind off the task at hand. It didn’t matter because my girl getting was around zero during my high school years – I did some sloppy making out when I was 14 and had no distractions until after high school (gotta wonder why I never could concentrate anyway)
However, I’m kind of down with girl distractions, especially when they are fresh in the mind. There’s nothing like letting your mind wander when you’re bored or trying to sleep and I guess I’ll have to live with narrowly getting thrown off cliffs – because I like girls and all the distractions they offer the mind.

Very cute! However, I am going to point out that you have reached the age where you should be thinking about ‘women’. (Girlhood really ends between ages 12-15.)
Generally, in the frum world, women and men are called boys and girls until they are married. This girl was under 40 so I say girl…
Hurrah! I guess I can start wearing pigtails again…
Somehow I’m thinking that Tinok was the girl that Heshy was thinking about. Anyone care to agree? disagree? Hmmm. He is teasing us by not giving us the details.
Ha! Heshy’s adorable and all, but I believe I am the same age as his step-mother…
That may be so but it’s kinda obnoxious to call grown women “girls” or grown men “boys”, though I have noticed they seem to call men men even when unmarried more often than call a woman woman. It’s not sexist… not at all…
Grown unmarried men are not boys, they’re bochurs.
As in “Go find yourself a nice Jewish Bochur”.
I was also thinking about girls recently and in fact wrote my first essay about them (criticizing them). Not because I don’t like them but rather I make it a general point only to critique what I think is good and yet can be improved.
But I just want to mention that in fact as far as nature is concerned guys are a dime a dozen. Nature wants us to be distracted and the more we try not to be distracted the more she makes us distracted.
> I’m pretty sure that thinking of girls that I talked to… was a lot better than mishna brura seder at 8am in the morning.
Sure, but that’s not saying much. For many teenagers, the water stain on the beis medrash ceiling is more interesting than mishna brura seder at 8am in the morning.
I find it all so fascinating because in my old age I love learning the bru
Our relatonship with G-d is modeled after our relationship with a woman – and I can tell you that I spend a lot of time spacing out about both my wife and G-d. Both are good things to think about.
The entire notion that thinking about girls is somehow wrong is profoundly messed up. After all, we are *supposed* to want to complete ourselves in loving relationships with others.
“gotta wonder why I never could concentrate anyway”
Ummm, you’re telling us you don’t have ADHD? Because you sure as hell seem to have it.
We as Jews oppose feminism as it has turned women into slaves. Instead of starting and raising families, young women have been brainwashed to get careers over children. The title HOUSEWIFE has been downgraded and besmirched. Fact is TERRORISM HAS DESTROYED TWO BUILDINGS,BUT FEMINISM HAS DESTROYED THOUSANDS OF HOMES. We see how thousands of older single financially successful women, CRY themselves to sleep every night here on Manhattans upper west side. They forsook getting married young and opted out for a silly career. Now they sit in their high rise condos alone staring at four walls while family oriented people enjoy each others company. So many depressed older feministic singles who undergo intense sessions with their therapist, but to no avail. Tears shed from these lonely misled souls can fill the space of the east river. Ships and even cruise liners could operate on that volume of tears, while the fish would not survive the abundance of salt coming from their tears .Young women reading this should tell their feminist mentors to bug off. Young women should go workout and study Torah subjects, cut out for women only. Another disease among modern orthodox is the obsession to study Gemaroh. A woman should study halochas and mussar and learn to smell good and keep quiet. This is million dollar advice that NO therapist has the guts to tell their clients. A woman should look up to a true mentor and not be fooled by the glitter of the outside secular world. Learn from the savvy and smart Jews living in Meah shearim and Williamsburg. Marry young and be happy is better than being old and alone. Wake up young lady’s and get busy. Life is short. Accomplishment in spiritual matters counts. The rest is Hevel havalim, all vanity.

YOU KNOW your’e in trouble when you start when you find yourself checking out your daughters friends
Isn’t that supposed to read “YOU KNOW you’re OLD when you check out your daughter’s friends”?
“This is our belief as Jews”?! I think not!
This may be your belief as a kook, who happens to be Jewish…
I thought we as Jews shouldn’t be judging someones religious devotion based on their height. Are all men who are shorter than me lesser people?
Is this JPAC garbage for real?
Can you get rid of this JPAC?
Oh, for Heaven’s sake! By this time it should be obvious to all of you that JPAC is kidding (and actually getting a little better at it over time – or maybe I’m just more easily amused the later at night it is!)
Seriously, JPACs rantings sound very familiar. I have a close relative who sounds like that….maybe you heard of him, the Fullabulla Rebbe?
