The media, myself included, is constantly deriding the Charedim in Israel for its poor treatment of women. We tend to notice the bad, the bus beat downs, the public protests, riots, the evil modesty signs in Meah Shearim, but we seldom notice their commitment to women. What many of you may have missed, during the pictures and videos of Israel in the snow, are the reports of special transport vehicles for Charedi women to get to the mikvah. I myself was shocked by the mesiras nefesh of women, those same women who were banned from so many things, leaving the comfort of their homes during the worst snow storm in many years in order to merely have sex. Sex is such a taboo topic in Charedi culture, yet here they were risking life and limb to get to the mikvah in what was almost like an airlift.
Unfortunately, some in the media decided to twist this story and claim that thousands of Israelis were trapped in cars, while these special transports went to the mikvah. I’m not exactly sure that saving the lives of Israelis is more important than going to the mikvah, but still, I find it said that some in the media are always looking for ways to twist the story and make it like the Charedim are evil.
In other news, some crack jobs are claiming that the snowstorm hit Jerusalem is because of the arrests of folks refusing to report to draft duty.

Chareidi men make sure to drag their women out in the snow to get “clean” so the men don’t have to find a pro. Kiddush Hashem why, exactly?
Everybody wants the D
Pause. Everybody?
It’s a joke
Seriously? I enjoy nidda time as time for myself but when it’s over, I want it GONE and would hate to delay going to the mikvah…yes, I’d brave a snowstorm, and not for the nookie, necessarily. Just missing being able to hug my incredibly attractive and loving husband. If you think this was man-driven, think otherwise. (Though if it were men driving these vehicles, I would very much take issue with that. Mikvah is a women’s domain and should stay that way.)
If its only to get physical connection, and not sex, you’d think there would be some sort of loophole that could be put in place.. like that in dire cases of risk to life, the “no touchy the dirty niddah lady” could be waived for some level of affection… But hey, it;s not like it’s booze in Sherry casks, so there isn’t a Rabbi out there who has time to work on this one (especially after the endless celebration of booze loopholes).
Hey, you can freeze or starve to death any time, but you can’t expect the husbands to wait for coitus! That’s just cruel and unusual punishment.
Can’t you use snow anyway in an emergency?
What for?
as a mikvah, I guess. I think that’s what she was saying.
They have a jeep and could use it to rescue people trapped in their cars. Nahhh lets take women to the mikvah so guys can get laid…….yeah make sense?
Pru U’Rivu ladies and gentlemen
Pretty sure Shmaryah is just trolling with these silly posts. I guess you’re advertising for his blog?
Those terrible men and women should issue a public apology for being Orthodox Jews, and then shut down all of the mikvahs. Then everyone will be happy.
Wonder what young married couples did or do in war torn areas, or where it is or was too dangerous for a woman to venture out to attend mikvah, night or day. Are they expected to abstain, Aafor who knows how long, because halachah offers no substitutes for kosher immersion?
Honestly? They probably got as close as circumstances would allow. Then they shrugged and said “We’ll say a couple more prayers on Yom Kippur, give extra tzedakah and beg forgiveness from the Almighty a little more sincerely. You do the best you can.” Ever since the destruction of the Temple we’ve been making it up as we went along, doing things we didn’t before and leaving things we were supposed to do undone.
Yes yes yes and a million times yes!!!
Obviously life and death comes first.. but I kind of understand, how else do you keep warm when you lose heat. What did you do during last storm when there wasn’t any heat and your batteries on your computer already went. We made our own heat.
I’m a woman and would HATE to push off mikvah night for any reason.
I find the concept of coitus ridiculous and off-putting.
Sheldon, it’s your poor spouse I feel sorry for
Why?
1) Why is everyone assuming only the men want to get laid?
2) Why is everyone assuming the only reason a woman would want to end her nidda time on time is for nookie?
3) Was there a life-threatening shortage of emergency vehicles?
4) Were any of the women being forcibly dragged screaming from their homes to risk life and limb on 150 km/hr versions of Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride?
If the answers to 3 & 4 are “No” then it’s their business.
Exactly
Agreed on all points. That other site Heshy keeps promoting is just moronic and the author is a huge troll.
If the mikvaot didn’t have their own electricity generators, the women were indeed “risking life and limb.”
If it were really that cold the mikvaot wouldn’t be open. I’m the first to say that a lot of Charedism is chiroptera-scat insane, but dying from hypothermia isn’t part of the program.
