So I’m searching on You Tube for any interesting Maccabeats response videos and I found this one of this dude proposing to his girlfriend and it may be one of the most awkward shomer negiah moments I have ever witnessed.

aww.. its sweet
There guys are supposed to be YU accapella(they completely blew it). Not a bad song. But he was too nervous. And it was a bit cheesy and ingenuine to read from a script.
awsome song and praposal. i saw this video the day it was posted. btw if u look at the comments (either on utube of onlysimchas.com) it says they were dating since they were 12! im sure they wearnt always shomer…..
They’re friends of mine and as weird as it sounds they really have been shomer the whole time although ftr they have NOT been dating since 12, just have been friends.
Mazel tov to your friends, soon by me, and soon by Heshy (not with each other), but there are exactly two people who know if this couple has been shomer with each other. To say “they really are shomer” is necessarily speculation, not testimony for the record. And without a 24hr webcam, and with no incentive to say otherwise, why should any frum couple’s claim to have been shomer be believed?
Definitely not shomer – she was showing too much knee and h’s yarmulke was too small.
I know them well. They seriously have been shomer since they started going out…they’re actually really serious about it too…
Anon, you’re missing the point. All third-party commentary on their behavior is speculation. Consider the famous Purim Torah that “vayeitze Yaakov” proves that Yaakov wore a kipa; it’s risibly absurd to misconstrue speculation into proof.
Frankly the whole thing is immodest, from her skirt to the decision to publicize the film. But they do get a bit of a free pass for being sweet kids who don’t know any better.
They have learned a Valuable Lesson about bragging and will be far less likely than most couples to show off their shana rishona baby to barren classmates or 45yo bachelorette cousins.
btw i thought it was very cute and i dont mean to put them down…. also yossi langer seemed so nervous. may they share a happy life together!!
The best moment is when she says yes and he just stays put; THAT must require years of serious training. Wow!
How different it would have been, if they had one of these:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dF4sIMn845I
(very old but relevant)
wow I know them haha weird…
The oddest part of this video is when she takes the ring from the box and puts it on herself.
Couldn’t Yossi memorize the lyrics instead of reading from a paper?
Its like, if your gonna wear a rly rly short skirt, why are you shomer?
So youll dress like a zonah but wont give your fiance a hug?
You cant have it both ways
“rly rly short skirt”? get a life. or get out of your frummie bubble.
frummie bubble. best way to describe it!
1) Her skirt makes her a zonah? Please tell me you are kidding.
2) What you said about not being able to have it both ways is absolutely antithetical to Jewish belief. It is the age old question of “all or nothing”. Even the greatest tzaddikim need to work on themselves (implying there is what to work on). It isn’t a contradiction that we aren’t perfect, it is just our reality. Dan l’kaf zechus!
I dont see the connection, is torah all or nothing since when keep what you can eventualy one day you will keep it all. Like for instance one day you will have perfected “veahvto lireacha kemocha” and seeing the good, but until then keep keeping kosher and shabbos, or whatever you may keep
Of course you could, shomer negiah and tznius are two completely sort of halachic debates. Shomer negiah only applies if she didn;t go to the mikvah and tznius is relative because no one really ever put it down on paper and the styles keep changing. Just because she’s cute and showing a little leg doesn;t mean she’s a ho.
If you were truly frum, you wouldn’t be calling someone a zonah. You know it’s not right.
Why are these comments so critical? I thought it was adorable. Especially how nervous he was!
The song was really long; I think it’s fine that he didn’t memorize it.
Hilarious! people following halacha that you are to weak to keep ha ha ha
The only thing that may be funnier is how bitter you are when you see others find happiness. Loosen up you’ll find it to one day, hang in there and keep your head up
I saw this nerd in shul the other day, umm my urge was to go over and slap him you look like a total dumbass Shes cute i must say..
She better invest in a few cases of earplugs, that singing was so f*cking annoying and they just kept going on and on. I can’t imagine how bad it will get when he invites his buddies over for Shabbos.
If found the idea really cheesy and overdone, but it seemed that she really liked it, unless it was the ring size she kept gawking at.
On the bright sight nerd and nerdette seem suited for each other, may they be zocheh to build a bayis nerdman beyisrael!
He’s an effing dweeb, and she’s do-able.
It was cute.
that was the most awkward and embarrassingly painful to watch vidoes i’ve ever seen. made me laugh though, so it was worth it.
I’m glad she said yes, it’s when you stop and realize this is the moment where the rest of their lives (hopefully) begin,it’s kind of breathtaking and somber. This is the moment upon which the 2 of them agree to raise a family together. Possibly hundreds of sleepless nights and nights with sick children, vacations together, buying a home, living out life happy. I’m being completely serious it’s a powerful moment. I feel like by watching it i’m intruding.
She’s hot.
1) what pizza store is this 2) i am so glad i’m not part of this nerdy frummy community anymore.
She’s not a hot chani but a hot chavi
Would you look at all that knee! Maybe if the single girls started wearing short skirts, we’d all get married. No one cares about skirt length. They will only ostracize a guy if he marries a girl who wears pants.
All you haters are just jealous…that was really cute!
I thought this was an adorable way to propose! They look really happy together and that’s what matters!
Weird. She looks like an anorexic goth. Who’s the dude she hugs after the proposal?
You mean the one labeled Maccabeat mom?
She looks like a bulimic goth, yes… she has a favorite pizza place so I’m going with bulimic not anorexic.
and that skirt is still REALLY short. I didn’t wear them that short when I wasn’t religious.
This guy reminds me of Andy Bernard from the Office.
that`s a very “cheesy” way of proposing
The comments about this video are cruel, sexual, obnoxious and judgmental. And disgusting and hateful. Comments like these (“she’s do-able,” “she looks like an anorexic goth,” “she looks like a bulimic goth,” “she’s hot,” “he’s an effing dweeb”) and the sick presumption that you have the right to chew over – and then publicly vomit – your thoughts about whether this couple is shomer is egotistical, idiotic, and smacks of evil. It’s also antithetical to basic Jewish values.
It’s comments like these that make you see the present as if you’re reading it about it in retrospect, and it’s ugly for Jews. “In the early 2000’s, some facets of Judaism reached such a depraved state of observance that they publicly shit on other Jews for being halachically observant. This public shit-fest sometimes took place on-line, as in the case of the observant couple who were vilified — by a bunch of people who couldn’t spell — after their halachically-respectful engagement was posted on-line. Some went so far as to ponder whether the couple really were halachic (“im sure they wearent always shomer”), pathetically failing to realize that in the process they violated halacha themselves, while others rated the couple’s hotness factor (“she’s do-able” “she’s hot”).”
It’s kind of like Sodom. The person who commented that the girl in the video looks like a “bulimic goth” or that “she’s do-able” – what are you thinking? What if the girl reads that and is mortified (there’s an example of how it’s antithetical to Jewish values. She’d be hurt. Duh.) It’s awful that this video is used as a launchpad for highlighting an “awkward shomer negiah moment” instead of just leaving it be, untouched, for what it is. But what’s truly sick are the comments — even if you watch this proposal and can’t relate on any level, it’s off limits for this kind of depraved commenting.
If she’s mortified that she looks like a bulimic goth then I guess she better eat some food and pull down her skirt. She didn’t even TRY to pull down her skirt or cover her knees with her hand and there’s no way a skirt covered her knees before she sat and it rode up THAT much.
You skipped the paragraph before that: “In the early 2000’s people were thristy for attention. They would do anything for even 15 seconds of fame. for some this egotistical thirst for attention led them to brodcast their most private moments on the internet for all to see. Naturally, the comments they recieved were not always kind consider the case of the effing dweeb proposing to the totally doable anorexic goth [insert your paragraph here]”

Love it – bravo! En core please
Did you not notice that they on their own decided to post this nerdy video online? It is not like someone did candid cam on them and posted it online.
You dont want to be judged by commuters? then dont post your nerdy proposals online it aint complicated.
That’s just annoying. Here’s why: If a premise is true, take it as far as it will stretch, and it will stay just as true. But yours doesn’t. You’re saying “they posted the video, so they asked for it.” It’s irrelevant who posted it or why. Not even on the radar. At issue is the fact that people posted cruel comments, and that’s where the responsibility and the conversation should lie. If you think about it, your logic is based on the same premise used by criminals (let’s say a thief, or a rapist) — a situation presents itself (the i-pod was left in full view in the car, or the girl was dressed like a slut) – and the person who responds wrongly tries to clear themselves by pointing to the victim’s behavior. You want to focus on the i-pod in the car, the girl’s clothes, the fact that the video was posted. It’s a faulty premise to plant your feet on. You’ll topple over.
If you walk around naked in public, dont go complaining when people make fun of you.
GETTING ENGAGED AT PIZZA PIOUS.
CLASSY.
why does she keep on covering her nose?
Hi everyone….
My name is Chavi and I’m the girl from this video.
I just want to set some things straight.
This video, of the happiest day of my life, was posted for the sole intention of sharing it with many of our close friends all over the world. We had no idea how popular it would get and were really surprised.
However, the most shocking thing that came from this whole situation is the awful, hurtful comments made from our fellow jews.
How can people possibly judge an innocent couple who they don’t know anything about? Labeling us with such cruel words such as “nerds” “zonah” “anorexic” and many more? Is this really the religion that we all follow faithfully?
I’m so sorry if my skirt offended anyone. It rode up by accident and I had no idea, seeing as I was a little bit busy with other things!
This proposal was PERFECT for me in every way and only true friends can understand why.
Also, discussing whether people are shomer negiah or not is so completely inappropriate that I am truly disgusted by what I have read here!
Thank you so much to everyone who defended us…
You are the epitomize of what it means to be a frum person.
-Chavi
Come on. It was so nerdy, it was painful to watch.
Oh, OfftheDwannaB, don’t be such a grump! I’m sure as she said it was the happiest day of her whole life and while of course poking a bit of good-natured fun is one thing I can surely understand how her feelings have been a bit hurt by some of the stuff that people have posted in response.
As for the young couple, I say mazel tov to you! I hope your marriage is wonderful and long-lived.
You’re probably right Mahla. I probably wrote that because I’m just bitter. Chavi, Mazal Tov and I hope you two have a wonderful life together.
I’m with OTD on this one, it was painful to watch.
I don’t think anyone should have called Chavi anything demeaning, after all, it was her finace’s idea to come up with this nerdy proposal to begin with, and big friggin deal if her skirt rode up to high.
I wish the both of you all the best, you may just want to get a case or earplugs in case you future husband and his buddies start pulling this shtick on a regular basis.
Hey my name is also Chavi and i am the girl how could u say it is you? I am messing, what exactly is to make us believe you are the real Chavi?… I tend to believe ‘Chavi’ is the angry Shani from comments on top 🙂
the fact that they made a youtube vid means they are BOTH not tznius, tznius means being modest and making a big shpiel like this to get attention means they aint tznius.
I actually know her… shes always been pretty cute.
Oh, and the location is in Pizza Pious, Hewlett NY. check the place out. Give it some much-needed business.
Very sweet and cute. I hope you get married, or are already married.
This is one of the cutest things I have ever seen!!!!!
mazel tov Chavi and Yossi! def romantic!! Good job Yossi!!~!
Don’t worry bout those comments, jelousy kills themselves in the end.
negative comments are rather looserish, especially if you put your real name by it….
Mazel Tov again!! I just think the whole thing was adorable, may you be zoiche to build a BNB!! amen! All the best.
