What’s your favorite Antisemitic term?

It’s been quite some time since any Antisemitic slurs have been yelled out of car windows at me, in fact, the only place it really ever happened was in Rochester, NY. It could be that Rochester is very Antisemitic, but I’m more likely to think that Rochester being the redneck ghetto town it is, suffers more from lack of education, experience and culture – rather than higher than average populations of Antisemites. Be that as it may, I learned the term “Jew’d em’ down” while living there and have since realized that it’s my favorite Antisemitic phrase or term.

In no way am I advocating for the public usage of Antisemitic slurs, but the thing is, I usually don’t find them all that offensive. I know that all you anti-Holocaust humor and anti-Antisemitism humor people are going to come out of the word works, but one has to admit that a quick visit to urban dictionary to check out the hundreds of terms such as “Jewbag” are fairly entertaining. I’m sure that if someone at the used car lot told me to stop Jewing em’ down I may take offense, but when used among fellow Yidden it seems perfectly acceptable. In fact, I have a friend who whenever speaking about concerts in the NY area will ask if “they are kikeable” which means “can we get some good deals from scalpers?”

So what’s your favorite Antisemitic slur?

Someone on Facebook mentioned Bloodsucking Christkillers and I kinda like the ring to that one too…

  1. When I was in YU, a professor of mine told me that “Yeshiva” when used as a verb (i.e. “I got Yeshivad”) means cheated out of money. The term in general refers to Yeshivas being bad at paying employees (and other expenses) on time.

According to this professor, the term reached prominence in the early ’80s when the faculty tried striking for money but lost. So the faculty of YU was “Yeshivad” out of a raise. He claims that at the time, the term was being used throughout the newspapers. I never confirmed this. But that is an interesting usage for the term Yeshiva.

  2. I’ve never heard it out in the wild, but someday before I die I’d like to be called a Front-Wheel Skid.

  3. I like the ones that say that Jews control this, that and the other… it’s rather complimentary on the face of it!

    1. it also inspires a lot of anti-semitism, blaming the jews for all the problems in the world because of course jews run the governments, the banks, etc.

      1. Apparently a Jew runs this highly influential blog called Frum Satire — it manipulates the internets.

  4. Once a guy in a crowd yelled at me “How come you Jews are so god-dammed smart?”

I yelled casually, but immediately “‘cuz you guys killed out all the the dumb ones. We’re what’s left.”

I realized that at the same time as shutting him up, I kinda put down the memory of many lost kedoshim. But the comeback was so effective in shutting him up, that I hope their memory will forgive me.

    1. That’s the most doubly-thoughtful perspective on it I’ve heard. It takes wit to think of that comeback, and it takes a strong connection to the heritage to feel that sensitive about disturbing the memories of the past in that way. I’m glad you’re part of Am Yisrael.

  5. Kike and Jewboy are so fifteen centuries ago.

Gotta agree with Louis. “Oven dodger” is the best one I’ve heard in a while. Mel Gibson deserves an extra curb-stomping for that one.

    1. Kike is ironic these days. The origin is the inability of Jews to sign their names with anything but an X.

When the stereotypes changed to Jews controlling all money and media, it seems silly to insult a Jew’s ability to read and write…

I understand there is a lot of connection to hatred from the past in the word, but I can’t help but think it says more about the ignorance and stupidity of the user than the harm it tries to deliver to our people.

  6. I’m a big fan of customized slurs like being called JEWemiah or being called Jew J instead of by my initials JJ. But yes Oven Dodger is definitely the best modern one in use.

  7. Yeah, Rochester is pretty nasty… I was there for a shabbaton, and we got fireworks thrown at us. (Three frum girls between ages 14 and 17)

  8. I like the way Louis Farrakhan emphasizes any syllable that sounds like “Jew”.

    The Jew-dicial System
    Jew-elry store.

    1. Just the other day, I gave a lecture at Columbia Jew-niversity, which is located in Jew York City!

And of course, when Jesse Jackson had to abort his presidential candidacy in 1987 because he quoted Farrakhan saying that New York City is a Hymie-Town! But is that any worse than Jackie Mason getting booed off the stage at a Giulliani campaign for referring to Mayor David Dinkins as a “fancy schvartze with a mustache”?

  9. I was once accused of lint and pennying someone because I was too cheap to nickle and dime them. True story.
