The Jewish Walk of Shame (video)

Video Synapses for all of you who can’t follow my speedy talking:

Ever get to shul and you just can’t find a siddur, or the siddur rack is all the way up front and everyone gets to stare at the newcomer as you frantically try and look for a siddur to suit you. A non Tehilas Hashem in a Chabad shul or maybe an artscroll siddur in one of those hole in the wall shteibles that have nothing but chassidic siddurs with weird fonts?

What about waking up late for shul and being the only man walking down the street? All those stroller wheeling ladies know its too late for you to be returning from hashkama minyan.

  1. Feel free to go nuts.

Great vid btw. I was considering visiting the nearest Chabad for Shabbat but considering I’d have to drive to get there anywhere near on time, I didn’t think it would go over so well. On this town goes without a rabbi at the synagogue and without services for another month and a half…

  2. Funny video!

There is always a stack of siddurs at the entrance where I go, but they do run out and the rest are kept up front. I can barely make it to 10AM shabbos shul, cant imagine 8:30!

  3. In my shul, the daughters of the Rabbi are extremely helpful. They know it’s their “job” to help you find the place.

  4. My new yarmulke is so airy, I would rather the cool breeze then have a mini rug on my head. Besides I can crunch it up and it always fall back in place and its waterproof. Its only because my hair is short, as the hair gets longer I will go to suede or knit once again.

  5. What? No kippah seruga ?! What kind of settler are you, anyway?!
Interestingly enough, our ‘nusach’ is Sefard, but we daven at Chabad; my husband uses a nusach Sefard siddur, and when I bring my own, so do I. It’s not too far from Ar”i . . .
When I start out late for shul and get there during kiddush (!) I always tell the Rav that ‘I’m early for shacharit the next morning.” (But it doesn’t count for me anyway, does it. . . )
Personally, you look and sound like a good ‘catch’ for a shidduch (not in order of importance. Who am I kidding):good-looking, fit, intelligent, and you sound as if you’ve learned something. How old are you?
I’ll put out feelers in my neighborhood. . .
